Now in his fourth season in 2018, Drew Willard is one of five Seahawk baseball alums serving as an assistant on the coaching staff. Willard's primary focus will be the catchers as well as being the third base coach.
The Leonardtown, Md., native brings a wealth of knowledge to the staff both as a player and a coach. Willard spent seven years as a high school head coach at both Westlake High School (2008-12) in Waldorf and at his alma mater, Leonardtown High School (2013-14).
He played his collegiate ball right here at St. Mary's, playing all four years behind the plate. Willard ended his career as a two-year starter, posting a career batting average of .244 with 75 hits, 48 RBI, six doubles, and one triple. He also scored 51 runs in 101 games played.
Willard graduated St. Mary's in 2007 with a degree in history. He stayed on at St. Mary's and completed his Masters of Arts in Teaching in 2008.
When not at the Hawk's Nest, Willard teaches seventh grade social studies at Leonardtown Middle School.
