Katie Lange will build upon last year's successes as she eagerly begins her second year at the helm of the Seahawk field hockey program.

In her first year of collegiate head coaching, Lange guided her team to the program's second appearance in the CAC championship game, while mentoring three All-CAC honorees as well as the CAC Co-Player of the Year in Emily Smithson.

Prior to St. Mary's, she spent the 2007-08 academic year as the assistant coach in both field hockey and women's lacrosse at Gettysburg College.  While at Gettysburg, Lange helped to mentor a pair of Centennial Conference title contenders and nationally ranked teams.  She helped the field hockey team reach the league tournament and earn a ranking of No. 19.  Then Lange assisted the lacrosse team to an appearance in the NCAA Tournament as well as a No. 2 national ranking.

A 2006 graduate of St. Mary's, she earned eight varsity letters with the field hockey and lacrosse teams.  Lange appeared in all but two games during her four-year field hockey career, tallying 19 points (7g, 5a) and helping the Seahawks to a 38-31 record.  She made an impact in the springtime as well for the nationally ranked lacrosse team as the Seahawks won 50 of 69 contests from 2003 to 2006.  Lange earned first-team All-CAC honors as a senior.

A native of Columbia, Md., she graduated from St. Mary's with a degree in human studies. Lange is currently pursuing a master's degree in exercise science and physical education from McDaniel College.
