Seahawks Edge Wesley behind Simon PK

Dover, Del. - Junior forward Misha Simon's (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) penalty kick in the 45th minute proved to be the only goal that the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team needed to collect a 1-0 victory in their Capital Athletic Conference opener at Wesley College on Saturday evening.
With Wesley fouling the Seahawks (2-2-1, 1-0 CAC) inside the box, Simon was called upon to take the PK at 44:06.
SMCM's sophomore Paul Spranklin (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) finished the evening with six saves and made five of them in the first half alone, including a diving save to his right on a shot by freshman forward Thomas Yolain (Windsor Mill, Md./Randallstown) from 25 yards out.
St. Mary's edged the Wolverines 15-12 in shots and 3-2 in corner kicks.
Sophomore Nick Talarico (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands) recorded four saves in the loss for Wesley (2-3, 0-1 CAC).
The Seahawks will look to keep the win streak going next Wednesday, September 17 when St. Mary's hosts the University of Mary Washington in another conference match-up at Seahawk Stadium. Mary Washington (2-2-1) is currently ranked fifth in the NSCAA South Region poll.
