Seahawk Men's Soccer Posts Shutout in Season Opener

Abington, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team used a three-goal first half to pick up a 4-0 season-opening win over the host Penn State Abington Nittany Lions Thursday afternoon. It was the season opener for both teams.

How It Happened
- Senior captain Nick Tait (Silver Spring, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) notched the first goal of the game at 4:17 as Tait collected a low cross from sophomore midfielder Juwan Kearson (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's), giving the Seahawks a 1-0 lead.
- Tait then returned the favor by assisting Kearson on his first goal of the season at 19:26.
- St. Mary's headed into halftime with a 3-0 advantage following an own goal at 41:27.
- Junior forward Luke Barber (Washington, D.C./Walt Whitman) sealed the 4-0 victory with a tally at 71:10 as junior forward Emmanuel Oppong (Tema, Ghana/Blake [Md.]) helped out on the play.

For the Seahawks (1-0)
- Scorers: Nick Tait (1 goal, 1 assist); Juwan Kearson (1 goal, 1 assist); Luke Barber (1 goal); Emmanuel Oppong (1 assist).
- Goalkeepers: Zack Haussler (5 saves, 0 goals allowed, 68:29); Patrick Paolini (0 saves, 0 goals allowed, 21:31).
- St. Mary's took 21 shots in the win and earned five corner kicks.

For Penn State Abington (0-1)
- Scorers: None.
- Goalkeepers: Kevin Sykes (4 saves, 3 goals allowed, 45:00); Tyler Morris (3 saves, 1 goal allowed, 45:00).
- The Nittany Lions fired off eight shots in the loss, led by five shots from senior forward Richard Domico (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy). 

- Today's win marks the second consecutive season that the Seahawks have opened a new campaign with a victory and St. Mary's has outscored Abington, 10-2, in the back-to-back season-opening wins.
