In 2009, Brianne Weaver will enter her fourth season as the head coach for the St. Mary's women's soccer program. Weaver became just the third head coach in the program's 24-year history in February 2006.
She has been involved with Division I and Division III athletics both as a coach and a player, a unique experience that helped form the basic tenet of her coaching philosophy: "College soccer should be both highly competitive and fun." She kicked off her head coaching career in impressive fashion as Weaver led the Seahawks to a 12-6-2 record in 2006, including the program's first-ever trip to the Capital Athletic Conference championship game. In her third season with the Seahawks, Weaver guided SMCM to a 12-3-3 overall record, including a 6-1-1 mark in CAC action. The Seahawks went unbeaten in the season's first 10 games (7-0-3) and were rewarded with the program's first-ever national ranking of No. 25 on October 7.
In just three seasons, Weaver has led the Seahawks to the CAC title match twice, finally notching the crown this season with a 1-0 triumph over York (Pa.) College and with the conference title in hand, St. Mary's made its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
The 2008 CAC Coach of the Year, Weaver became one of seven Division III coaches to earn regional coach of the year honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Her career record currently stands at 30-20-6 (15-6-2 CAC) and to date, she has coached two NSCAA All-Region players, two CAC Players of the Year, one CAC Rookie of the Year, and 15 all-conference selections. Weaver's squads have also been positive stewards of the game on and off the field, receiving two NSCAA Gold Team Ethics Awards for receiving zero cards in each of the last two seasons and earning two NSCAA Team Academic Awards.
She graduated from St. Mary's in 2000 with a B.A. in English. At St. Mary's, Weaver played both soccer and lacrosse for the Seahawks after transferring in from Division I Davidson College, where she played soccer for two years.
Prior to becoming the Seahawks' head coach, Weaver served as an assistant coach at several other top colleges and universities in the region, including Division I Richmond and Division III powerhouses: Washington & Lee, York (Pa.), and Mary Washington.
