St. Marys Falls at Washington (MD)

Chestertown, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team dropped a 110-95 decision to Washington (Md.) College in non-conference action for the Seahawks' first loss of the season. With the win, the Shorewomen improve to 3-1 while St. Mary's falls to 5-1 on the year.
Freshman Kelly Heyde (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) posted three individual wins as Heyde led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 individual medley, touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly in 59 seconds flat, and won the 100 backstroke in 1:03.52.
Heyde captured the 200 IM in 2:13.59 followed by junior captain Sofia Sokolove (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) in second in 2:22.79 and sophomore Katie Serfling (Frederick, Md./Urbana) in third in 2:25.02.
Senior Rachel Hotchko (Yakima, Wash./A.C. Davis) was the Seahawks' other individual winner as Hotchko took first in the 100 freestyle in 55.11 while finishing second in the 200 free in 2:02.94 and swimming the third leg of the second-place 200 medley relay.
Joining Hotchko on the second-place 200 medley relay was senior captain Monika Disque (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis), Sokolove, and freshman Melanie Bloch (Bethesda, Md./French International) as the Seahawks swam a 1:56.18.
Bloch placed second in the 50 free in 26.26 while claiming third in the 100 free (57.80).
Grue came in third in the 1000 free in 11:47.75 while freshman Maddie Casey (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) was third in the 500 free in 5:49.52. Sokolove took third in the 100 breast in 1:13.24.
The foursome of Casey, sophomore Christine DiMenna (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep), sophomore Katelyn Grue (Ellicott City, Md./Mount de Sales), and freshman Joanna Purich (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) swam a 1:49.71 to take second in the 200 free relay.
The Seahawks will be back in the pool next Saturday, November 21 when St. Mary's welcomes York (Pa.) College to the ARC Aquatics Center for Capital Athletic Conference action at 1:00 pm.
