St. Mary's Volleyball Silences York (Pa.) for First CAC Win of the Season

St. Mary's City, Md. – Three St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball players posted double-digit kills in leading the Seahawks to a 3-1 (25-23, 25-13, 23-25, 25-19) victory over the York College of Pennsylvania Spartans Friday night. Tonight's win was the first Capital Athletic Conference triumph of the season.

How It Happened

  • St. Mary's rallied from 17-13 down for the two-point win in the first set behind eight kills from senior captain Alli Graf (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), ending the game on Graf's kill.
  • The Seahawks rolled to a 2-0 lead in the match, cruising to a 12-point victory in the second. St. Mary's led by as many as 15-6 and York would close the gap to 17-12 before the home team won eight of the final nine points.
  • York cut its deficit in half with a 25-23 triumph in the third set to avoid the sweep. After a 16-15 St. Mary's lead, the Spartans ended the set on a 10-7 run behind first-year middle hitter Madyson Whitcomb's (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) five kills.
  • The Seahawks sealed the deal with a 25-19 win in the fourth. York stayed tight early on, tying the game at 11-all and forcing a Seahawk timeout. St. Mary's created separation with a quick 5-1 push. The match ended on a block by senior setter Mimi Graf (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and sophomore middle blocker Hannah Krauss (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park).

For the Seahawks (15-7, 1-1 CAC)

  • A. Graf (21 kills, 17 digs, 4 aces); Brigid Morris (season-best 15 kills, 3 block assists, 2 digs); Meghan Kelley (12 kills, career-best 3 block assists, 2 digs); M. Graf (career-high 46 assists, 15 digs, 5 kills); Carissa Hill (16 digs, 4 assists); Marissa Dangler (16 digs); Krauss (career-best 8 block assists, 4 kills, season-best 4 digs).
  • St. Mary's hit .207 for the match with 10 service aces and 8.0 team blocks.

For York (17-5, 1-2 CAC)

  • Madyson Whitcomb (15 kills, 5 solo blocks, 3 block assists); Sarah Wukitch (19 assists, 9 digs); Gabby Emeigh (16 assists, 5 digs); Alexis Harbold (23 digs); Hannah McMaster (11 digs, 4 kills, 3 block assists).
  • The Spartans attacked at a .143 clip with five service aces and 13.0 team blocks.

Notes

  • Senior setter Mimi Graf (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) continues to better her career performances with a career-best 46 assists in the win while recording her 14th double-double of the season as well with 15 digs.
  • Krauss racked up a career-best eight block assists plus a season-high four digs.
