Morris Davis
Title: Head Coach
Phone: 240-895-2054
Year: Sixth Season
College: Embry-Riddle '01

Entering his sixth season in 2009, Morris Davis boasts four consecutive winning seasons since starting his St. Mary's coaching career with a 6-19 mark in 2004.  Davis notched his 100th career win with a 3-0 sweep of Rutgers-Newark on November 1.  He has coached two All-Americans, four all-region selections and 10 All-CAC picks.  The school's first-ever AVCA Mid-Atlantic Region Freshman of the Year (Claire Kodan in 2007) and two CAC rookies of the year have also passed through the program during Davis' watch.

Looking at Davis' track record, it is evident that winning is indeed part of the tradition that he has instilled in the Seahawks.  SMCM has continually improved its overall winning percentage and conference finish each season, going from one CAC win in 2004 to seven a year ago.

Last season, Davis coached the program's second All-American in Katie Ewing as well as two AVCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region picks and three All-CAC selections, while the Seahawks made a return trip to the CAC championship match.  The Seahawks' 7-1 conference log is the most league wins by any St. Mary's squad.

The 2007 CAC Coach of the Year, he mentored the program's first-ever All-American in Claire Kodan, while guiding St. Mary's to its first-ever appearance in the CAC title match.  Davis also guided the Seahawks to a school record for most wins in a season with a 30-7 record.

For the second year in a row, he coached the CAC Rookie of the Year as Katie Ewing was selected in 2006.  Davis concluded the 2005 season leading the Seahawks to their first 20-win season since 1999 and their first winning season since 2002, while Becca Tursell was voted as the CAC Rookie of the Year, becoming the first-ever Seahawk to win such an honor.

His mindset of winning comes from being involved with volleyball for over 25 years both as a player and coach, including 15 years as the head coach for the All-Navy and US Armed Forces women's volleyball teams, while having also coached at the club level.

During the 1999 and 2000 seasons, Davis served as the head varsity coach at McDonough HS in Pomfret, Md., where he led the school to a two-year record of 39-3 and a No. 2 ranking.  The team finished as the regional runner-up twice during his tenure.

Davis does have one year of collegiate coaching experience to his credit prior to St. Mary's, helping to lead Norfolk State University to a second place conference tournament finish with a 10-9 mark during the 1987 season.

Born on the island of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, Davis is a 20-year veteran of the US Navy.  He earned a B.S. in technical operations management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2001.
