Beatty Adds to Postseason Resume

Birmingham, Ala. – Senior Sam Beatty (Columbia, Md./Hammond) picked up an additional postseason honor as Beatty earned 2014 American Baseball Coaches Association All-South Region Third Team honors as announced by the ABCA on Monday.

Beatty is just the second St. Mary's baseball player to earn such an honor as the last Seahawk to be named All-Region was third baseman Steve Oursler in 1999, who notched a first team citation after winning the Capital Athletic Conference Triple Crown as the leader in batting average (.473), home runs (9), and RBI (45).

His first-ever all-region selection comes on the heels of Beatty's first-ever All-CAC award on May 7th, earning a second team nod. Both of these honors were well-deserved following an outstanding senior season. His great year was highlighted by his CAC and school single-game record of 16 strikeouts in a 4-3 win at Marymount (Va.) University on March 31st.

The 6-2 right-handed pitcher finished as the conference's statistical leader with 68 strikeouts this season while ranking third with team-best 8.02 strikeouts per game. Team-highs of three complete games and 76.1 innings pitched ranked Beatty sixth and seventh, respectively, in the CAC. He finished his senior year with a 6-3 record and one save for a 2.36 ERA.

Beatty concluded his two-year Seahawk career with a 6-8 record in 26 appearances, tallying a 3.80 ERA in 118.1 innings pitched and fanning 97 batters.
