St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team saw their one-run lead vanish in the ninth as No. 23 Randolph-Macon College rallied for a 5-4 non-conference win on Wednesday afternoon.

St. Mary's (8-21) was just three outs away from the upset victory over Randolph-Macon (25-9). Down 4-3 heading into the game's final inning, the Yellow Jackets' lead-off hitter, first-year Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca), struck out to start the inning but reached on a passed ball. Spiers then stole second before senior Nate Meiners (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's Prep) singled to advance Spiers to third.

As the go-ahead run, Meiners stole second and R-MC now had runners on second and third. Junior Nick Maiolo (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) singled up the middle to bring home Spiers and Meiners and put the Yellow Jackets 5-4 with no outs on the scoreboard.

Sophomore Nick Raimondo (Annapolis, Md./South River) then came in to relieve junior Garrett Pope (Port Republic, Md./Calvert) and got the Seahawks out of the jam. Maiolo was picked off at first and Raimondo followed with a pair of ground outs to end Randolph-Macon's run in the ninth.

Senior captain Luke Green (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) opened up the Seahawks' half of the ninth with a single and then advanced to second on a single by senior captain Jared Eaker (Mechanicsville, Md./Leonardtown) but Green was thrown out at third. Junior Hunter Mohler (La Plata, Md./Bishop McNamara) then singled to move Eaker to third. However, St. Mary's rally was cut short with a pair of fly outs to end the game.

Mohler and senior Paul Roemer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) paced the Seahawks at the plate with three hits apiece while Pope suffered the loss on the mound, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Meiners led Randolph-Macon to the win with a 3-for-3 effort plus five stolen bases, three runs, and two walks. Junior Tanner Phillips (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) improved to 3-0 on the season as Phillips pitched a scoreless eighth inning while senior JT Williamson (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) collected his seventh save as Williamson scattered three hits in a scoreless ninth.

R-MC claimed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before St. Mary's evened up the score with a run in the bottom of the second. The Yellow Jackets regained a 2-1 advantage in the third before SMCM claimed its first lead of the game with two runs in its half of the third. Randolph-Macon tied up the game for the second time at 3-3 with run in the fourth before the Seahawks responded with a run in the fifth to maintain a one-run lead.

St. Mary's will wrap up the 2015 campaign this Sunday, May 3rd as the Seahawks welcome Gallaudet University to the Hawk's Nest for a non-conference game at 1:00 p.m.
