St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team announced their 2014 schedule Wednesday afternoon, which is highlighted by four opponents that finished ranked in the NFHCA Top-15 in the final national rankings.
This fall's schedule features 16 regular-season games and two of those contests has St. Mary's taking on a pair of NCAA semifinalists in Christopher Newport University and Salisbury University. Salisbury, the defending Capital Athletic Conference tournament champion, finished as the national runner-up after falling 1-0 to Bowdoin College in the NCAA title game.

The Seahawks then begin September on the road at the University of Mary Washington Tournament on Sept. 6-7. St. Mary's first opponent will be Roanoke College on the 6th before facing Franklin & Marshall College, who finished ranked 10th in last year's final poll, the next day.
St. Mary's returns home to take on Shenandoah University on Sept. 11 before beginning a four-game road trip, visiting Stevenson University (Sept. 13), Washington & Lee University (Sept. 20), Bridgewater (Va.) College (Sept. 21), and Randolph-Macon College (Sept. 23).
Eastern Mennonite University comes into town on Sept. 27 to begin a four-game home stand. October marks the start of conference play as the Seahawks host Frostburg State University on Oct. 4 during the annual Hawktoberfest festivities. St. Mary's continues CAC action by welcoming York College of Pennsylvania to Seahawk Stadium on Oct. 11.
The team takes a respite from league play on Oct. 12 to host Virginia Wesleyan College before traveling to three CAC opponents in five days – Wesley College (Oct. 16); Mary Washington (Oct. 18), who finished ranked 15th in the final rankings a year ago; and Christopher Newport (Oct. 21), who came in fourth in the final poll.
A week after CNU, the Seahawks wrap up the regular-season at home against Salisbury, who finished third in the nation, on Oct. 28. The CAC Tournament begins Nov. 2 with first round action followed by the semifinals on Nov. 5 and the championship being decided on Nov. 8.
The Seahawks' 2013 campaign to a close in the first round of the CAC Field Hockey Championship Tournament, falling to Wesley 2-1 in overtime. St. Mary's ended with a 10-6 (3-3 CAC) record, marking the first time since 2010 that the team had recorded a 10-win season and earning the fourth seed in the playoffs.
