How It Happened

  • The opening six minutes of action were competitive and had the Seahawks take an 13-10 lead at the 12:54 mark. Next, the Seahawks strung together a six-point run, their largest of the contest to extend their lead to 19-10. Jack Foley began the run with an electrifying dunk and ended the run with a layup.

  • With under five minutes remaining in the half, the Knights responded with five unanswered points to bring themselves within two at the 3:33 mark. SVU eventually evened things up at 36-36 with 1:31 remaining, but the Seahawks finished the half strong by recording the final six points of the half and headed into the locker rooms with a 42-36 advantage. Grant, Foley, and Dee Barnes recorded scores during the run to end the half.

  • St. Mary's College took command in the second half and never gave up the lead the rest of the way. At the 15:06 mark of the second half, the Seahawks created a six-point scoring run to jump out to a 15-point advantage. Miles Gillette highlighted the run with four points and Barnes tallied two.

  • Minutes later, Barnes drained a three-ball to extend the Seahawk lead to 23 points, their largest of the afternoon. Southern Virginia went on an eight-point run with 8:41 remaining, but the Seahawk lead was too much to overcome.
