ITHACA, N.Y. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland sailing team traveled to Ithaca, New York on Saturday (Mar. 30) and competed in the Team Race Challenge. The Seahawks finished second with a 14-3 record on the day.

St. Mary's College had Liam McCarthy, Josh Paper, and Lewis Cooper as skippers, and had crews consisting of Kaisey McCallion, Katherine Bjerregaard, Lydia McPherson-Shambarger, and Thomas Walker.

Racing began as scheduled in a light southerly shifting between the SE and SW directions. Around 1:30pm the forecasted big southerly came through at 18-22kts with gusts in the mid 20's. Temperatures were in the mid 60's with partly cloudy skies, creating fantastic sailing conditions.

The Seahawks finished behind Cornell, but defeated the University of Pennsylvania, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, SUNY Maritime College, Christopher Newport University, Villanova University, and Steven Institute of Technology.

St. Mary's College will be back in action this Saturday (Apr. 6) and Sunday (Apr. 7) when they host the Prosser Trophy.
