St. Mary’s Women’s Lacrosse Downed by No. 7 Mary Washington

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse (7-7, 1-2 CAC) was downed 12-5 by the No. 7 Mary Washington Eagles (12-2, 3-1 CAC) on Saturday (Apr. 13) afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action.

How It Happened

  • The Seahawks started the game strong with three unanswered goals for a 3-0 lead at the 15:04 mark of the opening half. Ali Collie, Jayne Barkman, and Caitlin Katchmar beat the opposing goalkeeper for scores. Trailing 3-0, the Eagles stormed back with a five goal scoring burst to end the half. St. Mary's College trailed Mary Washington 5-3 at halftime.

  • The Eagles began the second half with three-straight goals and pulled out to an 8-3 lead. The Seahawks responded with a goal from Sydni Thacker to temporarily slow down the Eagles momentum. Next, Mary Washington strung together a four goal run and captured a commanding 12-4 advantage with 5:44 remaining in regulation. St. Mary's College continued to fight and eventually tallied their final score of the game at the 3:58 mark. Lucy Gussio streaked through the middle of the Eagle defense for the goal.

Inside the Box Score

  • Katchmar led the Seahawks on the offensive end with two points from one goal and one assist.

  • Mary Kate Fitz-Patrick hustled for a team-best four ground balls, while Barkman paced the squad with two caused turnovers. In goal, Emma Brown collected eight saves.
