Seahawks Drop CAC Regular Season Finale

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. –  The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team (5-21,0-10 CAC) continued their season against the University of Mary Washington (15-12, 8-2 CAC) in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup Friday night (Nov. 1). The Seahawks fell in the match with a score of 3-1 in their final home game of the season.

How It Happened

  • St. Mary's College raced out to an 11-7 lead before the Eagles called their first timeout. The two came out of the timeout and traded points until the Seahawks found themselves with a 15-13 lead and forced Mary Washington to call their second timeout. Both squads once again played evenly and the score came to 24-22 in favor of the Seahawks until a Taylor Wigglesworth and Audrey McKay block secured the 25-22 first set win over the Eagles.

  • The Eagles stormed out to a 17-10 second set lead and never looked back as they took the set 25-11 and evened the match at 1-1. 

  • The third set started out with a 9-5 Mary Washington lead and that was stretched to 17-10 with the Eagles still in front. The third set went to the Eagles as they comfortably won 25-13. 

  • The Seahawks gathered themselves and started the fourth set with a 7-4 lead over the Eagles. However, Mary Washington turned the score around and took a 15-9 lead over the Seahawks. St. Mary's College continued to battle but eventually dropped the set and match with a fourth set score of 25-20. 

Inside the Box Score 

  • Ellyse Sutliff had a big night for the Seahawks as she was one kill off of a season-high with 17 against the Eagles. First year Kyra Feinaeur was second in kills for the Seahawks as she registered eight. Tonight's match brought Sutliff's total kills for the year to a team-best 214.

  • Katie Agate collected 32 assists to lead St. Mary's College for the night and this pushed her over the 300 assist mark for the year to a total of 324.

  • Nicole Kreutzinger had 16 digs to lead the Seahawks defensively while Emily Benedict was right behind her with 14.
