FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country was picked to finish sixth in the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, the league announced today (Aug 21).

York was picked to finish first overall receiving five first place votes and twenty-five votes total and are coming off winning the previous three championships.  Christopher Newport University and the University of Mary Washington both received eighteen total votes, which put them tied for second place in the poll. Salisbury received one first place vote but finished fourth overall with fifteen points. Southern Virginia picked up nine total points for fifth overall and the Seahawks were sixth while receiving five total points.

The 2019 season begins on Friday, Aug. 30 as the Seahawks will race in the Mary Washington Opener. The CAC Championships will be hosted by York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday, Nov 2, with regionals and nationals set for Nov. 16 & Nov. 23, respectively.

The Seahawks women's cross-country team is coming off one their strongest years in the programs short history with promises of having another successful campaign. Four of their top seven athletes return with juniors Kara Taylor and Lindsey Stevenson leading the way after strong sophomore years. Taylor finished her year by placing fifth overall in the CAC and was the only non-senior to finish in the top five. That finish would also be good enough to land her on the first-team CAC list and she was named St. Mary's female athlete of the year. First year head coach Ryan Scanlon welcomes in three new athletes and is excited to build off the success of last year's team.
